In order to facilitate thinner slabs and greater span lengths between support columns post-tension and pre-tensioned cables are commonly used in concrete construction. These cables, consisted of steel wires plugged into a metallic shell, are subsequently ‘tensioned’ and grouted after the concrete is poured. The enormous tension in the cable makes damaging it hazardous for the employee and compromises the structure's consistency.
GPR Corescan provides the penetrating power to see deep into the slab and find all structural elements. The unique characteristics of post-tension cables allow GPR imaging to reveal these traits with a high degree of authenticity. It worth noting that the cables are normally below the top layer of rebar, are often bundled together in a grouping, usually droop lower in the slab between support columns.
